FIBA Africa Zone 3 champions, Dolphins, have said they are set to take on other teams in the final-8 playoffs scheduled to dunk off on July 18 at the National Stadium, Lagos.
The coach of the club, Ochuko Okworogun, told our correspondent on Monday after their training that they have been preparing for the playoffs in the past two weeks and are ready to make it to the final.
She said, “We started training about two weeks ago and we have been working hard to get really prepared for this next phase of the league, which is the toughest. We have been grouped with Delta Force, Sunshine Angels and First Deepwater. The other group has First Bank, IGP Queens, Custom and Benue Princess.
“The top two teams in each group would advance to the semi-final while the winners of the round will play the final. We know it is not going to be an easy ride because other teams are equally preparing, but we are sure we will get to the final. Of all the teams in our group, Delta Force are likely to give us the toughest challenge essentially because they have played us before.”
Dolphins, who were last season’s runners-up, have been unbeaten this season and had set a league record of the highest number of points scored in a game when they beat Zamfara Babes 127-33 in the second phase in Ilorin.
The captain of the side, Bintu Badmus, added that they would face the playoffs with seriousness to ensure that they remain unbeaten throughout the season.
